Nairobi, Kenya: State House Comptroller Lawrence Lenayapa has refuted claims by Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter that he called police officers at the Gilgil Weighbridge to demand release of a lorry.

This comes following a video that has been widely circulated on social media showing the MP involved in an exchange with police officers. Keter and nominated URP MP Sunjeev Birdi, while demanding release of the lorries, claimed the police officers had refused to pick his calls and those from State House and appeared to threaten them.

“Nobody from state house called Gilgil. As comptroller, I never talked to Keter or anybody from Gilgil weighbridge,” said Lenayapa.

“Keter should stop dragging State House into his own issues. The rule of law must be followed and no one should use state house to further their own agenda,” he added.

In a statement from State House, spokesperson Manoah Esipisu said “leaders are reminded that the constitution requires them to serve and demonstrate respect for the people; and to bring honour to the nation, and dignity to their offices.

Esipisu said the claims by Keter about public officers at State House were untrue and amounted to namedropping.

The Presidency commended the public officers at the Gilgil Weighbridge who “resisted the apparent intimidation”.
