President Uhuru Kenyatta urges students to work hard as teachers strike enters second week

NAIROBI, KENYA: President Uhuru Kenyatta is calling upon students to remain focused and excel in their studies and extra-curricular activities in order to adequately prepare for the future challenges.

Speaking during the Westland’s Sub-County ball games championships at State House Girls, President Kenyatta said the country belongs to the young generation hence the need for youth to prepare for positions of leadership.

The President said children have a right to education among other basic entitlements in life and should therefore demand them at all times from the providers.

The Head of State challenged the winners selected to represent the Sub-county during the Nairobi City County championships on Saturday next week to work extra hard to bring back all the available trophies.

He congratulated both the winners and losers in the championship for providing their best during the championship.

“For the winners congratulations for the excellent performance. For the losers, there is always a tomorrow” said the President.

To motivate the Sub-county team, President Kenyatta pledged to reward them with goodies if they won the County trophy.

The Head of State, who presented trophies to the winning teams, pledged the necessary support to students to exploit their talents both in academic studies and sports.

The Host, State House Girls won both football and Volleyball girls. In football, State Girls defeated Kenya High by 4-3 on penalties. In volleyball, State House girls beat Parklands Arya girls by three sets to nil.

In football boys, Milimani secondary school beat Lavington boys by 4-3 on post-match penalties to clinch the trophy while in boys Volleyball, Hospital Hill secondary school beat Nairobi school by 3 sets to nil to lift the trophy.
