Police are investigating an incident in which unknown people broke into J.M. Kariuki County Referral Hospital mortuary and took away the body of a ten-year-old boy.

The body of the deceased was later recovered dumped inside a septic tank within the hospital premises.

Nyandarua Central Police Commander, Stella Cherono, said the people broke into the hospital morgue on Thursday night and took away the body of the boy from one of the refrigerators.

"One of the staff noticed the doors had been broken into. It was then that the other members of staff noticed that the body of the boy was missing and notified the police. Upon searching, the body was found in a septic tank within the hospital compound," she said.

Cherono said three other bodies had been left leaning on the walls of the morgue.

She said they were investigating some staff who were believed to be behind the incident.
