Completion of key link road to ease traffic in the city

Expansion and upgrade works on a key feeder road that will ease traffic flow within Nairobi have been completed, awaiting final inspection by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).

The routine maintenance of the 57km Athi River-Rironi Road which serves Machakos, Nairobi and Kiambu counties was undertaken by Pinnie Agency Ltd at a cost of Sh90.2 million, according to KeNHA.

The road covers Rironi, Gitaru, Kikuyu, Loresho, Highridge, Nairobi South, Nairobi West, Syokimau, Mlolongo to Athi River. The expanded road will help ease the gridlock including the jam-prone Lusaka Road and Enterprise Road.

"Works undertaken include desilting to ensure raging floods associated with the three counties do not destroy the bitumen or hamper free movement of vehicular traffic," said KeNHA in a statement.

Other key works included installation of gulley pot covers, drainage structure and base repairs, re-carpetting, repair of road furniture and maintenance.

"The contractor has executed all the instructed works and in general has attained physical progress of 96 per cent and 100 per cent of the lapsed period. The contract is now substantially complete and is awaiting taking over instruction," noted the road agency.
