Huawei Technologies has set up its first store in Nairobi, as it seeks to deepen its market penetration in the lucrative mobile handset market.
The Chinese multinational is banking on the new modern store located at Garden City to increase its share in the telecommunications equipment and services industry and interact directly with its customers. Initially, Huawei retailed its phones through Safaricom and other retailers.
According to Huawei Kenya Chief Executive Officer, Dean Yu,the move will help them get direct feedback from their customers so as to be able to improve on its offerings.
“We will now have a chance to get our customers’ feedback and experiences by directly serving them from the new outlet,” explained Dean Yu, adding that the store would also provide a venue for Huawei to carryout promotions, offer market incentives and gauge where they need to improve on. He, however, clarified that their partnership with Safaricom will continue.
Huawei also plans to open another outlet in the Central Business District in the first quarter of next year.
“We are moving from the lower segment into Smartphones and opening up stores in the country to increase sales,” reckoned Dean Yu.
“The store is also geared at tapping the customers’ emotions and enabling us to know how our brands connect with the customers,” said Mark Hao, Huawei’s Country Director.
