University, institute sign partnership on corporate governance

The Institute of Certified Secretaries (ICS) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the University of Nairobi to conduct training on research and corporate governance.

ICS Chief Executive Obare Nyaega and Chairman Waweru Mathenge signed the deal with the university’s Dean of School of Law Kiarie Mwaura and Ken Mutula, a member of the faculty majoring in corporate governance.

The MoU seeks to conduct training on research and corporate governance, develop modern learning content and build futuristic certified secretaries.

It will also facilitate joint publishing of the governance Journal and study materials for CS students as well as enhance faculty and student career opportunities in Kenya.

A joint quarterly publication of UoN and ICS dated September 1, 2019, was also launched during the event held at ICS headquarters, Nairobi.

"One of the components of the MOU we have signed is to have a governance journal that will have a pure review of governance articles,” said Mr Nyaega.

"This is because we have not been able to have governance articles in the country and it’s time we stopped having international benchmarking and developed our own that works for this context,” he added.
