Farmers want a cereals bank established in Kirinyaga.

Speaking to the media in Kutus town, the farmers asked the county government to buy their idea and actualise it during the current harvesting season of maize.

They said their shambas had a good maize crop and it would only be appropriate to have some in the proposed bank for later use .

Under such an arrangement, a farmer would be required to deliver a number of bags of maize to the designated bank and get a receipt.

Agriculture Executive Ngundo Warui said although the idea was timely, food storage was the mandate of the national government through the National Cereals and Produce Board.
