A senior police officer was carjacked, beaten up and robbed of his uniform, cash, car and identification cards in Nairobi’s Tasia estate.

The officer of the rank of superintendent and attached to police headquarters’ personnel department was dropping a friend in the estate on Tuesday night when three gunmen struck.

The officer said the gang used their car to block his way as he tried to make a turn and ordered him to surrender at gunpoint.

The gang then bundled him and his friend to the backseat of his car and drove around the area.

Among the gang was a female who beat him up.

The suspects are said to have first dropped off the officer’s friend in the nearby Jacaranda estate and drove with him as they robbed other motorists.

According to the police, the officer had not carried his gun.

The gang took his ATM cards, which they used to withdraw unknown amount of money in Kariobangi area.

Senior officers who attended to the victim said the gang became furious when they realized he was a policeman.

And after an ordeal that lasted up to four hours,

Senior officers led by Nairobi PPO Anthony Kibuchi visited the scene and declared a major hunt on the gang.
