A senior lecturer at Bandari College Mombasa was Thursday arrested after he allegedly stabbed his wife to death at the college.

The wife was working at the college as one of the subordinate staff.

The don is alleged to have waited for the wife at the college gate and accompanied her to the office and allegedly stabbed her on the chest and hands.

According to a neighbour, Nchama Makoti, the couple had been having marital problems for a while resulting in the wife leaving her matrimonial home.

She said that, the deceased screamed for help in the office and when her colleagues arrived, she was unconscious and bleeding profusely.

The husband was said to have been beaten by his colleagues and was later arrested and taken to Central police station.

The body of the deceased was taken to Pandya hospital where relatives and colleagues flocked and demanded for justice.

They accused the husband of being irresponsible terming him as a beast for taking the life of his wife.

Meanwhile a human rights activist said there was need for port workers to be sensitized on gender- based violence.

Julius Ogogoh, programme coordinator for human rights and justice at the Coast, said cases of gender-based violence (GBV) within in the region were high.
