Kenya continues to lose millions of shillings in corrupt payments to Anglo Leasing companies, according to a new cable by online whistleblower, WikiLeaks.

Former corruption Czar John Githongo, in a communication with former US ambassador Michael Ranneberger said Finance Minister Uhuru Kenyatta condones the continued budgeting of corrupt payments to Anglo Leasing companies.

“The Ambassador continues to publicly and privately press the government of Kenya to freeze payments to Anglo Leasing companies and to release both the Cockar Commission report on the irregular sale of the Grand Regency Hotel and the maize scandal audit,” said Ranneberger in a cable to his bosses.

Also Githongo was of the opinion that Patrick Lumumba, the director of the Kenyan Anti-Corruption Commission (KACC) would fail to reform KACC because of the vested interests there.

The revelation comes a few days after Parliament passed a new law disbanding KACC.

Under the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission Bill that will establish the Independent Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, MPs criticised Lumumba for his approach and performance.

If assented to, Lumumba and his top staff will be sent home.

Those who wish to work for the new outfit will have to re-apply and those accepted will be vetted.
