Officer kills girlfriend and colleague in Bura

A police officer went berserk and shot dead a colleague and his girlfriend on Saturday morning in Madogo, Bura District.

The policeman, who is reported to have been on duty overnight returned to his house in the morning accompanied by his girlfriend.

A quarrel ensued between the two before he shot dead his lover. He also killed his colleague who was responding to a distress call from the slain girlfriend.

General Service Unit (GSU) officers who were on patrol intervened and shot dead the rogue cop as he fled while shooting indiscriminately.

According to a colleague, the officer had been complaining saying he wanted to leave the area.

Investigations are underway to unravel circumstances that lead to the bizarre killings.

The incident occurred in Madogo division, the same area where an officer was killed and Bura North OCPD Gabriel Kuya injured last week in a battle sparked by a rivalry between two matatu associations. 

A police vehicle was also burnt and two guns stolen in the violence that broke out on Monday.

The chaos continued on Tuesday, leading to the attack on the officers who had been called to quell the situation.

A suspect has so far been arrested and a gun recovered following the attack.
