All after noon flights to and from Kisumu airport have been cancelled. The drastic decision by Kenya Air Ports Authority (KAA) is to allow construction of the runway continue uninterrupted.

Kisumu Airport manager Joseph Okumu has confirmed the cancellations.

However, morning and evening flights will remain on schedule.

Passengers on transit from Nairobi to Kisumu and vice versa will now have to adjust their timings to avoid inconveniences.

Over the weekend, Kenya Air ways and Jet Link airlines were penalized after they flew in the after noon, despite the ban.

But none of them was ready to say why they had to do so even after it was communicated to all air lines that they fly only in the morning and evening hours.

Sources at the port told Standard that the airlines were penalized for putting lives of passengers at risk by flying in amid repairs.

The airlines had to wait for more than six hours to be allowed to fly after passengers disembarked from the planes.

The discipline was taken to allow them abide by the ban on after noon flights as enforced by the airport authorities.

Just last week, a Jetlink plane nearly crushed at the runway when it veered off the lane.

But a quick decision by the pilot salvaged the plane from a possible crush into the lake.

According to witnesses, the pilot applied emergency brakes and skidded to the solid land after the breaks failed.

This saved the plane from skidding to the Lake after the pilot turned to the solid ground.
