Senior police officers moved in reshuffle

Twenty-five senior police officers were yesterday moved in changes aimed at revamping the war on drugs.

Among those moved was the Coast PPO Leo Nyongesa, who goes to North Eastern in the same capacity and his CID counterpart Reche Nyagah, who was named the new PCIO for Rift Valley.

The new Coast Provincial Police Officer is Aggrey Adoli who was moved from North Eastern while the new head of the Anti-Narcotics Unit is Mr Sebastian Ndaru.

He will be deputised by Mr Moses Ndidi.

The section had been targeted for revamping after a presidential direction. Central PCIO Scavier Mbogoh was moved to CID headquarters to head the complaints section while Rift Valley PCIO Henry Ondiek was moved to Central in the same position.

Head of special crimes unit Richard Katola was moved to Eastern as the deputy PCIO and will be succeeded by John Mwaka Koki.

Anti-narcotics unit

The new Coast PCIO is Ambrose Munyasia, who was promoted from Rift Valley while the former head of anti-narcotics unit Judith Adhiambo was moved to the police college.

Commissioner of Police Mathew Iteere said the changes were aimed at revamping general police operations as he also named John Nyanzwii the head of Serious Crimes Unit at CID headquarters.

The new head of anti-narcotics unit in Coast is Festus Malinge, Ruth Muinde (JKIA), Vincent Agesa (Kilindini), Margaret Karanja (Eldoret Airport), Daniel Kimulwo (Mombasa Airport) while Kennedy Wabwoba was named the new deputy OCPD for Homa Bay.

Iteere moved the head of Serious Crimes Unit Danson Diru to CID in North Eastern Province and Sospeter Njue of CID headquarters.

Others included John Gachomo (Deputy PCIO Coast), Noah Katumo (Deputy in charge of special crimes) and Sebson Wandera (deputy PCIO Rift Valley).

Complaints

President Kibaki directed the restructuring of the unit even as he said no member of his Cabinet had been linked to the shoddy business so far.

Kibaki also called on Kenyans and any other persons who may have information on drug trafficking to directly volunteer that information to the Commissioner of Police or the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of State for Provincial Administration and Internal Security.

ANU has been under a senior superintendent of police and there have been complaints that it is not accorded the required support to address the menace.
