State urged to upgrade road network

Efficiency at the Port of Mombasa and a smooth road network will prop up and retain the status of Kenya as a regional economic hub.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) President, Akihiko Tanaka, said a good infrastructure was crucial for the country to grow as well as attract investors.

“Infrastructure is the basis to make an economy more productive,” Tanaka said.

“An efficient transportation system will also ensure the price of Kenyan goods destined for other markets in the region are priced competitively,” he said.

Tanaka, who has been in office as JICA president for just three months, was in the country last week to familiarise himself with JICA projects.
