Kalonzo: I will work with G7 leaders

Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka has maintained that he is committed to work together with leaders associated with the G7 alliance to capture the presidency in the coming elections.

Speaking in Koibatek, the Wiper party leader insisted that he would work with like-minded parties in the alliance like the United Republican Party (URP) and National Alliance Party of Kenya (NAPK).

Eldoret North MP William Ruto has already indicated that he will be using URP to seek the top seat while Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta has not named his next party of choice, but has already ruled out chances of contesting on a Kanu ticket.

While addressing residents of Solian, the vice-president urged them to pray for him to progress well in his political ambitions, saying people from his backyard have worked for long with people from Rift Valley.

"Eldama Ravine is a significant place politically and that is why I have come here to woo you to support me alongside my brother Ruto who is also your son," said Kalonzo.

Extensive experience

Kalonzo was on a two-day tour of Rift Valley region at a time the Eldoret North MP was busy in Ukambani meeting the electorate.

Kalonzo insisted that he is the best person to replace President Kibaki given his extensive political experience.

He said given the history of vice- presidents who have captured the seat, he has no doubt in his mind of being the man to succeed President Kibaki.

"Presidents Moi and Kibaki were vice- presidents and eventually became Heads of State. I see no reason at all why I cannot be the next president, think about this," said Kalonzo.

Kalonzo supported the decision by Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko ordering for the prosecution of ODM chief whip Jakoyo Midiwo following his allegation that Prime Minister Raila Odinga was to be assassinated.

He cautioned politicians to be careful with their statements, especially as the country heads towards election, adding that alarming statements should be discouraged at all cost.
