Communication experts converge in Nairobi

Communication experts drawn from East Africa region converge in Nairobi from Wednesday for a landmark conference.

According to Prof Mureej Mc’Ochieng of Multimedia University College of Kenya, who is also the convener of the conference, renown scholars such as Health Services minister Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o, National Council for Science and Technology chief executive Prof Shaukat A Abdulrazak, and Information and Communication PS Dr Bitange Ndemo will feature in the three-day conference thT ends on Friday.

The conference, whose theme is ‘Communication Research and African Development’ draws speakers from Tanzania, Uganda and even Nordic countries.

‘Besides promoting communication studies in East Africa, the East African Communication Association is a forum where scholars, researchers and others involved in communication studies and practice can meet and exchange information and ideas about their work," says Prof Mureej in a brief to media houses.

Whereas Prof Abdulrazak†will provide a keynote speech on the role of media and communication in knowledge dissemination for development in Africa, Prof Nyong’o†will talk of how media and communication can entrench substantive democracy in Africa in the 21st Century.

The EACA brings together media and communication scholars from different institutions in the East African region. These include, Multimedia University, University of Nairobi, United States International University, Daystar University, Makerere University (Uganda) and University of Dar es salaam (Tanzania).

EACA is also in a partnership with the Media Council of Kenya and a number of leading media houses in East Africa.
