MPs probe 'dumping' of human bodies

A parliamentary team visited Koibatek as part of investigations into claims human bodies were dumped into forests in the district.

Parliamentary Departmental Committee on National Security and Administration under the chairmanship of Mt Elgon MP Fred Kapondi said it had received complaints bodies were dumped in Eldama Ravine.

"We want to know if the bodies said to have been found in the area are linked to those recently found in Lari. It is a concern to us," said Mr Kapondi. The team visited Kinale area on Monday where police collected six bodies dumped by people who are yet to be identified.

The officials toured the scene as residents claimed some bodies had been recovered in a pool of water. The bodies of six men were found there early last month.

In April, police said they had collected four others from a nearby forest. Kapondi and his team met residents and the local district security committee, who confirmed the discovery of the bodies. Police maintained they are yet to establish those behind the killings and dumping of the bodies.

Those who saw the bodies claimed some had gunshot wounds while others had wounds inflicted by blunt objects. Kapondi said they would compile a report with recommendations on the matter.

Deputy Speaker Farah Maalim ordered the committee to investigate after area MP David Njuguna claimed the executions had indications of extra-judicial killings.
