We all stand to benefit from new Constitution, says Ruto

Higher Education Minister William Ruto has said opponents of the new Constitution are not losers now that the new laws are in place.

Ruto said those who campaigned against the Proposed Constitution are also benefiting just like other Kenyans.

He hailed those who supported the ‘No’ campaign, especially those in the Rift Valley who voted as a bloc during the referendum August 4.

He said the Rift Valley bloc would remain united during the 2012 General Election.

Ruto, who spoke in Kalenjin, said the President, Prime Minister, US Ambassador Michael Ranneberger, and US President Barack Obama delivered more than six million votes for the ‘Yes’ team.

"This may not be repeated in 2012 when the likes of Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka or deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta go separate ways," he said.

The minister was speaking at an education function funded by Nandi County Council at the Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Kapsabet town, on Saturday.

He urged residents to elect credible people as senators and governors.

MPs David Koech (Mosop), Elijah Lagat (Emgwen), and county chairmen Paul Kiprop (Uasin Gishu), and Ezekiel Ruto (Nandi) accompanied the minister.

Koech criticised commissioners fighting the Truth Justice and Reconciliation Commission chair.

"Those clamouring for the removal of the chair should tell Kenyans whether they are against the commission or the chairman," said Koech.
