Kipkemoi Aywalamuk, 25, was reportedly killed when an elder brother came looking for his sibling after an argument.

The incident at Sangach trading centre sparked a revenge mission from the victims’ relatives, who torched about ten houses and stole 20 cows. The raid took place at about 7.30pm in Marich village, Kaben location.

"The suspect found the victim and another man repairing a motorbike by the roadside and because nightfall had come, he thought it was his brother," said a witness who identified himself as Kaino.

Now, Marich villagers have fled their homes fearing more attacks even as police officers were deployed to provide security.

Marakwet East OCPD Elijah Maina said the police are looking for the suspect who fled after the incident.

"We are handling the case and police are gathering more details," said Mr Maina.

He assured residents more police would be deployed to prevent retaliatory attacks until calm returns.

The OCPD said the suspect shot the victim with a poisoned arrow
