Obama granny to get degree

It is never too late to get a degree, and an advanced one in this case, when your deeds are good.

At 88, US President’s grandmother Sarah Obama will receive a honorary doctorate degree during a graduation ceremony at Great Lakes University of Kisumu (Gluk), on Monday.

Sarah will add to her cap her current position as Goodwill Ambassador of Inter-Governmental Institution for the use of Micro-Algae Spirulina against Malnutrition.

American Senator Larry Womble will be guest of honour at the ceremony to be held in Kisumu.

On Sunday, Gluk’s Director of Communications Rose Olayo said the institution would confer the degree to Sarah because of her humanitarian initiatives.

"She has been involved in activities to assist less fortunate women and orphans," Ms Olayo said.
