Five people, among them two British citizens, have been charged with threatening to kill Ms Nazlin Umar Rajput.

The Britons, Mr Munir Hussein and Mr Tariq Hussein, were arraigned in court on Monday alongside Mr Caleb Burudi, Mr Obadiah Burudi and Mr James Mwangi.

They allegedly threatened the former presidential candidate at Panafric Hotel on diverse days between June 9 and June 28.

When they appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Stella Muketi, the five denied the charges.

Among those listed as prosecution witnesses are Nazlin and Mr Mohammed Suleiman.

Nazlin made history by becoming the only woman presidential candidate in the 2007 General Election with the Workers Congress Party. She was previously in ODM before fallout with the party leadership.

On Monday, Muketi ordered the five to be remanded at Pangani Police Station following an application by the prosecution.

The prosecution informed the court it needed more time to conduct further investigation and also to take their fingerprints.

The case will be mentioned on Tuesday.
