VP defends Kibaki, Raila over reforms

Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka has defended President Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga over claims they are stumbling blocks to reforms.

The VP dismissed those pointing accusing fingers at the coalition principals, terming them a setback to the reform agenda.

"Let us appreciate the positive steps and efforts made by Government and Parliament on Agenda Four of the National Accord. I am confident we will achieve the reforms needed," Kalonzo said.

He claimed critics were out to derail the reform agenda.

"The country is talking reforms, and it is uncalled for to tag others as anti-reforms," Kalonzo said.

Said he: "We should offer encouragement to our colleagues so that they pull together for a better Kenya."

On the Constitution, Kalonzo said the Government would build consensus and come up with a draft document that won’t be contested at the referendum.

Meanwhile, the VP has urged women to push for national healing and reconciliation.

Speaking at a funds drive in Nairobi, Kalonzo challenged women to act as a unifying factor in families.

"Women are the prime movers of the economy and should use this role to defuse differences and enhance national unity," he said.
