Second best candidate was KCPE giant

By Isaac Ongiri

Nyaosi Bugei Omete, who emerged second nationally in last year’s KCSE, was the country’s top KCPE student in 2004.

His success caused excitement at Starehe Boys Centre, where he was student.

"I am very happy. I thought I would be the top candidate, but being second is not so bad. I’m so excited," Omete told The Standard.

Omete scored ‘A’ with 87.262. The top student, Maugo Nyauma Mark from Alliance, beat with a difference of micro-points.

His parents Eng Richard and Dr Grace Nyosi could not hide their happiness when we visited the family yesterday.

In 2004, Nyaosi brought joy and fame to the family when he got top position.

"I scored 472 out of 500 marks and topped the 2004 KCPE. It led me to Starehe Boys Centre," Omete said.

Pearl Kwamboka, his elder sister and a Loreto Convent alumni, was third best girl candidate in last year’s KCSE and was ranked 21 nationally.

Omete was the deputy school captain at Starehe Boys Centre.

Teachers said he was an excellent student. The school’s acting director Joseph Gikubu said: "We knew from day one that Omete would beat everyone"

Yesterday, the KCSE star said he hoped to join one of the best universities abroad to study Computer Engineering.
