Nakumatt: DNA results out today

By Cyrus Ombati

The DNA results of those who died in the Nakumatt fire are expected today.

The 14-day period experts from Biotec Forensic said it would take to test and analyse the samples lapses today. Relatives of those who died in the inferno gave out samples on February 3, for DNA analysis.

Rescuers recovered 27 bodies and only five could be identified, calling for DNA testing.

Investigations into the incident have shifted to the Kenya Power and Lighting Company and the City Council’s fire department.

This was after an inspection report showed that Woolworth’s building that housed the supermarket complied with fire safety measures before the inferno.

There have been claims that a power outage may have caused the fire, but KPLC has denied.

Preliminary findings have established that a generator claimed to have burst and caused the inferno is intact with diesel. It is stationed in a fireproof room.

The findings also show all exit points at the building were functional and some trained fire marshals of the supermarket died as they rescued those trapped.
