Are bows and arrows weapons?

By Kipkirui K’Telwa

Recently there were media reports that Kenyans living in Rift Valley were re-arming themselves in readiness for the next round of bloody violence. Though I would not want to lend credence to such rumours, I wondered why many people associate guns with violence.

But I am not alone. Read what this reader says and you will understand that there is no definition of weapons.

“Are bows and arrows considered weapons in Kenya? For a number of years, Kenyans avoided to mention bows and arrows as weapons yet they have been used to kill many Kenyans. Many more Kenyans have died out of arrow wounds than from bullets. So please, when considering to ban weapons, do not forget to ban bows and arrows,” suggests Isaac Newton Kinity, United States.
