The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) beat hosts Western Delight 57-23 at the Kakamega Police Post in a Kenya Basketball Federation Women’s Premier League game on Sunday.
KPA lead in all quarters, 21-08, 06-05, 18-06 and 11-04, in the encounter which saw KPA’s Irene Murambi emerge the top scorer with 14 points.
KPA coach Anthony Ojukwu told FeverPitch: “I’m glad we were able to implement what we have been learning in our training to win the game.”
KPA and Western Delights have eyes set on next month’s play-offs. Liruh, who expressed confidence that Western Delights will be in the playoffs said: “This season has not been very good for us but I want to assure fans that we will survive relegation.”
Very difficult
His KPA counterpart said: “Playoffs are usually very difficult as most teams are well prepared, but we shall do our best to ensure we get best results.”
Meanwhile, Cameroon thrashed Kenya 61-39 in the opening match of the ongoing Afro basket opener in Maputo, Mozambique. Kenya also lost their second match 74-49 to Nigeria. The Kenyans trailed 11-18, 12-7, 13-9, 18-9 against Cameroon.
In the KBF men’s Premier League, the United States International University-Africa (Usiu-A) Tigers mauled Ulinzi 66-57 in an encounter which saw Victor Bosire and Kevin Macharia score 16 and 12 points respectively for the winners. Outstanding for Ulinzi were William Ochieng’ and Bernard Mfutu with 18 and 12 points a piece.
In another match, Strathmore silenced Thunder 44-42 as Lions got a walkover against Mennonites.
Extended winning ways
Terror beat Blazers 47-27. Usiu-A women also extended their winning ways, beating Kenya College of Accountancy University 57-20 as Safe Spaces won 64-61 over Kenyatta University Oryx.
In the Nairobi Basketball Association league, the top two leading scorers came face to face as Don Bosco took on Woodley Knights. Joel Atebe shone as he scored 18 points to lead Don Bosco to a 60-40 victory over Woodley Knights who had 14 points from second highest scorer Ezra Alenga.
Multi-Media University hit Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Agriculture Jkuat (Juja Campus) 59-49.
Jkuat ladies recovered from their dismal showing the previous day to beat Daystar 42-9. During the match, Mary Chepkoi and Claire Kimeli each posted 21 points for the winners. Daystar had nine from Maureen Wanjiru.

Parklands Arya’s good run continued as they dismissed Africa Nazarene University (ANU) 52-47. Jackline Tinega bagged 15 points for the high school girls, while Purity Shelly bagged Anu’s 19 points.
Technical University of Kenya (TUK) hit Usiu-A Cubs 51-47 with Edgar Jillani scoring 12 points for TUK while Cubs’ Brian Odipo hit 19 points.
