Strathmore, KU Oryx shine at NBA quarters play-offs

Strathmore University’s Blades thrashed Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Jkuat), Juja Campus, 78-51 in game one as the Nairobi Basketball Association (NBA) playoffs quarterfinals threw off at the Railway Club at the weekend.

Emmanuel Soja and Derrick Juma collected 18 and 11 points for the Blades as Guyton Kijuba bagged 15 for Jkuat.

Little Prince hit Old Pirates 62-57 in a closely fought encounter. Clifford Gitonga bagged 13 points for Little Prince Fortunes, while Alvin Ali and Reagan Basweti each posted 12 points for the losers. Equity Bank posted the highest score in the play offs, beating Zetech College 90-65 with George Omenda contributing 28 points, followed by another 25 from Goddy Abuya.

Bigger margin

Zetech College had 15 from Jeremy Yongo. Zetech College, who have to win their second game by a bigger margin to proceed to the next stage, missed the services of Brian Aboge.

Barclays Bank of Kenya’s Eagles won 65-43 against Don Bosco with Mike Ngugi nailing 16 and Abel Kimondo adding 15 for the bankers. Joel Atebe scored 13, while his teammate Richard Omondi netted 12 for Don Bosco.

In the women’s category, Kenyatta University’s Oryx dismissed Footprints 60-42 in a tie that saw Bettie Kananu bag 19 points.

Sue Kinyua netted 17 for the winners, while swift Peris Magembe scored 18 for Footprints.

 Safe Spaces failed to contain Kenya College of Accountancy University who beat them 34-18 with Sylvia Ongwae leading the way with 18 points as Lydia Imbalti shot15 for the winners.

Strathmore University women beat fellow students Multi Media University 46-32 as Jkuat hit Barclays Bank of Kenya Eaglets 45-41.
