Anthony upbeat as event moves to Kilifi

Series leader Steve Anthony anticipates another fight albeit with anticipated stiff challenge.

A titanic battle pitting Anthony against other top drivers is in store as the fifth round of the Kenya National Autocross Championship moves to the coastal town of Kilifi this Sunday.

After a slump in form over the past two meetings, Anthony is hard- pressed to cut down rising Keith Henrie to size with round four winner Ian Duncan, who has missed three meetings, also anticipating in the groove.

Henrie, who registered his maiden win in Soysambu last month is no slough at his game.

Henrie is seeking a win in every event and especially in the remaining three rounds to eclipse defending champion Anthony.

"We have been preparing the buggy meticulously and anticipate another gruelling fight, but we certainly can’t afford to underestimate anyone," said Anthony.

"It will be very competitive with speed merchant Ian Duncan and Keith around," said Anthony.

Keith, on the other hand, says he is going for nothing short of victory. "I’m gunning for a win. I realise I need to win the remaining three rounds to win the championship.

"We have been grading the buggy by each event, but on a low budget," said Keith. Anthony has had teething problems with the engine and poor form in the last two meetings.

The Mombasa Motor Club (MMC) will host the event at a new track in Kilifi near Salama School.

The track which has been used previously in Coast Rally Club Championships covers 5.1km and is known to be smooth and wide.

MMC Chairman Roy McKenzie said the venue can be accessed by turning left 100m after Pwani University onto the dirt road.

Coast boys who will parade buggies include Karan Rathod and Tanveer Singh Oshan.
