The nation is crying for – single minded, sober, detribalised Kenyans who will see the country’s challenges for what they are and not through politics as usual.

Politicians should give us all a break! While at it, consider removing any hint of the word democratic, in their party names.

For true democracy to be achieved, these parties must work harder in the five years between elections, to strengthen their structures and systems.

My take is about the ongoing political party primaries that well and truly signal the start of the general election.

There is a threshold to just how much bad service Kenyans can take. Despite all this, Kenya Power has announced its intention to be an internet service provider. Perhaps that may be helpful so we can all tweet to alert them of power outages in our homes.

Political parties are no longer private entities and their leaders are ultimately accountable to every Kenyan. That is why the question must be asked, why is it that after all these years of attending such meetings, the lofty ideas are yet to be transferred to Kenya’s political parties?

Has impunity become so entrenched in Kenya that we now get surprised when wrongdoing is punished?

An attack on a police station is no small matter. It is an attack on the very core of our security sector. On the very people we expect to keep us safe.

With the over 50 registered political parties in Kenya, how many speak to you and for you?

It cannot be that any time anyone is unhappy with the performance of a party official; they can just storm the party offices and take over. Every political party must have the structures and the culture that discourage anyone from even thinking about such acts.

Why would members of parliament expect any preferential treatment while thousands of Kenyans languish in these very cells without the luxury of a lawyer to argue their case? These ordinary Kenyans have no media to highlight their plight and no politician to give ultimatums to the government on their behalf? How many of these members of parliament have ever fought this hard for the so-called ordinary Kenyans to be held in dignified cells? How many bills of such nature are pending before either House?
