IEBC and Opposition won polls law battle
It’s not easy to know what the political class aimed to achieve by amending the Election Laws, 2016.

Political sycophants will kill Raila Odinga before his time
Many people from Raila Odinga’s strongholds who have mastered the art of “eating from wrong plates.” There is a clique of so-called ODM supporters who believe that the only way to political offices is through pretending to be loving Raila passionately. They will do everything including posing for “forced photographs” with Raila, kneeling down while addressing him and even insulting other people with divergent views.

IEBC got it wrong on Okoa Kenya Signatures
Let me start by defining the word “signature” which has been at the centre of logjam between Okoa Kenya team and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, IEBC. According to Cambridge Dictionary, a signature – is “your name written by yourself, always in the same way, usually to show that something has been written or agreed by you.” It’s further defined as, “a person's name, or a mark representing it, as signed personally or by deputy, as in subscribing a letter or other document.”

DP Ruto's pilot was right in pushing police officer
To start with, “you are entitled to your own opinion but not your own facts.” On Tuesday while on my way to town, I overheard a heated debate that soon took a political turn suggesting that DP William Ruto’s pilot assaulted a female police officer in Nyandarua.

Kenyans and the politics of private parts
“Gideon Moi is uncircumcised, says DP Ruto,” that is today’s main headline in the Star Newspaper. My first reaction after reading it was, “how did he know that Gideon Moi is not circumcised? I thought such assessments are left for women to carry out and make a report to no one in particular.” Maybe, and just maybe, someone must have told Deputy President William Ruto that his clansman has not gone through the cut, but the “politics of private parts” is not anything new in Kenya.

Be warned, George Aladwa is serious about his threats and there are many more like him
In the recent past, Kenyans have been treated to numerous antics and hate speeches by the political class – including inciting messages to the members of the public. As Kenyans were celebrating Heroes Day, 2015, Former Nairobi City Mayor George Aldwa warned the Jubilee coalition of possible deaths and violence should Raila’s victory be stolen in the next election. “…for Raila to become president, some blood must be shed. We are warning them against stealing Raila’s victory in the upcoming presidential election…,” said George Aladwa.

“Constructive criticism” according to President Uhuru Kenyatta, and antics of the Opposition
It’s less imperative to scrutinize facts adjoining fictions of arguments between the government and the opposition. It seems that no political affiliation is too wrong to be right or too right to be wrong.

Why Nyeri coffee farmers are harvesting poverty and misery from plantations
Nyeri County Governor Nderitu Gachagwa had promised coffee farmers Kshs. 130 or USD 1.27 per one kilogram of coffee. The farmers say that they normally get between 10% to 37% of the promised price. At the international market, International Coffee Organization (ICO) published that July, 2015 prices for coffee were ranging between USD 119.62 (Kshs. 12, 257) to USD 154. 57 (Kshs. 15, 920. 71).

Why President Barack Obama’s administration grudgingly prefers Uhuru Kenyatta to Raila Odinga
Most vital American interests include Kenyan cooperation in the fight against al-Shabaab militants which have in the past launched scathing attacks against Western nationals in Kenya and Somalia. Kenya's military power is very crucial in the fight against Indian Ocean piracy in Somalia and in tackling regional problems including refugee crisis in East Africa. As it stands to date, Raila Odinga is against Kenya’s continues military presence in Somalia. United States of America differs with Raila on the suggestion to pull Kenyan troops from Somalia.

Is Hon. Moses Kuria grooming youth for another round of violence, after 2007 post election violence?
Over the weekend, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria led a group of youth who were out to look for illicit brew in some villages in Central Kenya. The over 200 youth were armed to teeth with machete and other weapons like “rungu,” and fighting sticks. They looked so aggressive and ready to fight. At a glance, their attire and nature of belligerence would only remind you of one thing, 2007/8 Post Election Violence which claimed the lives of over 1000 Kenyans.

Boy child on the verge of despair
hope for hope would have it, Alex Kariuki went back to school and got massive support from the initiative all through to his KCPE examinations. But it’s not only Alex who has been lucky, the school too, got free food for a whole term and the performance was amazing! In His own words "I am special. I have addressed university students, I am destined for greater things," Kariuki on 10th April, 2015, made a powerful speech about going to school and getting Equity scholarship in the presence of Prof. Kaimenyi during the launch of KRCN at KICC

The De-fault lines in Kenya’s hostage rescue operations
n al Shabaab took several students hostages at Garissa University College, the hope was that it would not turn out like Westgate Rescue effort that left over 60 people dead. It is alleged that the Westgate rescue mission was mishandled and burgled by the Kenya Defence Forces that took the command of the operation from the police. Even though Kenya police officers had corned the Westgate attackers on one side of the building, it’s believed that they were ordered out of the command by the military – leading to lose of direction and tussle. In the process, a member of Special Unit in the Kenya Police Service, The Recce Squad was shot dead. The military personnel were also blamed for allegedly looting from the Westgate

Why Kenya should adopt Electronic Identification System for livestock to curbs cattle rustling
By Obar Mark Every year, hundreds of people lose their lives to cattle rustling in Northern Kenya. Two years ago, over 40 police officers on a mission to recover stolen cattle, were killed in Baragoi- Samburu County. Kenya is now learning from Botswana on how to significantly reduce rustling by making it easier to track down stolen animals. Using modern technology, Botswana has successfully reduced incidences of cattle rustling that once threatened the country’s lucrative EU beef export market by at least 60%, through a project dubbed Livestock Identification and Trace-Back System (LITS). Implemented by a number of governmental agencies including the Department of Animal Production, Ministry of Agriculture and Practical Action EA, the project involves installing a digitized Identification system on livestock. The system uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) -an effective, safe, environment friendly and tamperproof technology, to identify individual livestock across

A Seven Year Old girl who is set to marry her "grandfather"
cuing young children from marriages is such a delicate operation in Turkana that can lead to severe consequences including vicious confrontations between the rescuers and the husbands of the girls. The Catholic Church of Lodwar has since devised a number of non-violent tools to face this social scourge. The first approach was to establish a school where any young girl can run to for education and protection by the church. The St. Augustine School has been receiving children from various parts of Northern Kenya and the number of children being enrolled for studies has always been on an increase. “Many young girls are currently turning up for studies, and the most surpising thing is that, these Turkana children are very brilliant. They understand concepts so fast and they don’t easily forget things,” Sr. Imelda Namasaka of

An Island where prostitution and drug trafficking is 'legal'
is not an easy thing to describe a place like Remba Island in words when it comes to sanitation and health matters. Upon approach to the island from around three kilometers, it’s possible to see swarms of birds like hawks hopping on the huge amounts of garbage collected anywhere without any preliminary concern to the dangers that can come with such conditions. The island that hosts over 20, 000 people has got no basic garbage management system. “As you can see, we have garbage everywhere including the lake. This is the same water that we use for bathing, cooking and other chores,” Otieno Oriaro who is a businessman said. The feel of rotten fish carcasses, desolate rocky ground and rubbish under the feet gives a foreboding warning of the dangers that the residents of Remba Island are exposed to. There are only four public latrines in the island, two of which are kept locked by their owners at the local primary school. The latrines are simple holes, shallowly dug on th
