Public Transport service operator Super Metro has announced that it will introduce a new route from the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

In a post on X, the transport association stated that the introduction of the new route will come with additional electric buses.

"Soon we'll be launching new electric buses and more of the seventh Generation NQR series which will be operating from the CBD straight to JKIA," Super Metro noted.

The operator did not however specify when the new route will be operational, but promised free rides on the inaugural route during its first day.

This marks the second batch of electric buses to be introduced since the transport association, after the first batch received in February this year.

The buses have been plying the CBD-Kikuyu and CBD-Kitengela routes.

During the launch, Kenyan Electric Mobility start-up BasiGo Chief Executive Officer Jit Bhattacharya said: “The number of electric buses in Kenya keeps growing. Today, we are proud to hand over this transformative bus to Super Metro”.

The adoption of an e-mobility system is one of the strategies used by countries to reduce gas emission that fuels climate change.
