A journalist from the Standard Group was on Wednesday, July 12, attacked while covering the anti-government protests in Kisumu.

Collins Oduor, a photographer, was allegedly assaulted by police officers who were monitoring the protesters along Kisumu-Kakamega road.

Oduor claimed that he was attacked while at the gate of the Kisumu Blood Transfusion Centre while trying to clear a path for the protesters and capture photos.

The police suddenly attacked him, striking him and causing pain and injuries to the journalist.

 He sustained injuries from the assault and was promptly taken to Kisumu referral hospital by his colleagues. [Michael Mute, Standard]

"I tried to move away to allow the protesters, who filled the road, to pass. As I moved towards the gate, the police attacked me and mercilessly beat me up," said Oduor.

 He sustained injuries from the assault and was promptly taken to Kisumu Referral Hospital by his colleagues who were present during the incident.

The police left the scene and continued discharging their duties.

At the time of publishing, no official communication was made by the authorities regarding the incident.
