Former national football champions Kakamega High School, also known as Green Commandos, will be seeking to redeem themselves when they host the 2023 Kakamega County Secondary School games that kick off on Thursday.
Kakamega lost 2-1 to defending champions Mwitoti last year and head coach Felix Lihanda is planning for a revenge as they seek to reclaim their title.
“It was sad last year. How we lost and missed the nationals could not be explained because we were the better team but luck was not on our side," said the coach.
“We have recollected ourselves again and now we dare anyone. The team has the experience and depth needed and I believe if we play our cards right, we will be at the regionals,” said Lihanda.
Kakamega High will tackle Shanderema, Marukusi and Munyuki in Group A.
Kakamega County Secondary School Secretary Mathews Murunga said they are ready for action despite financial difficulties.
“Generally, we have everything in place. Just some financial challenges we are encountering but we are ready to host a very intense finals in rugby and football,” said Murunga.
