Nelson Momanyi Ontita, 35, has been detained for 14 days pending investigations into the killing of his two children.

Momanyi appeared at Ogembo Law courts Monday morning on a miscellaneous application for the killing of his two children aged 10 months and two-year-old girls at Kiobegi village in Nyamache Subcounty in Kisii on Friday.

Principal Magistrate Calestous Sindani ordered that the suspect be detained at Nyangusu Police station. The Director Of Public Participation Ian Mukusi requested the court to grant the investigations team 14 days to complete investigations. The officers will also record witness statements and also have the suspect undergo a mental assessment.

The magistrate ordered that the suspect appears in court on January 23 for a mention.

The suspect appeared in court even as the region continues to experience an increasing number of murder cases.

Yesterday, a man allegedly killed his 22-year-old son in Bomariba Ward Bonchari.

The suspect is said to have hit the deceased with a jembe before stabbing him. Police are pursuing the suspect.

Law Society of Kenya South Nyanza branch officials led by chairman Gideon Nyambati called for speedy investigations into the murder cases.
