Fighting erupts after Kindiki security meeting in Lamu County

Fierce gunfight has been reported in Lamu West Sub County hours after a security meeting attended by Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof Kithure Kindiki.

Lamu West Sub County Police Commander Harissin Njuguna confirmed the fighting that was witnessed at Taa village, Witu Division, in the operation to flush out criminals.

The police told The Standard casualties would be known in due cause.

Earlier on, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki had ordered the removal of roadblocks on the Garsen-Witu-Mokowe road in Lamu County.

Kindiki said there should be free flow of people, vehicles and goods. Leaders from the region called for bush clearing 100 metres on both sides for visibility to destroy the hiding areas of the attackers.

Kindiki spoke at Kakate village, Witu division, Lamu West Sub-county on Wednesday when he met wananchi to discuss insecurity issues that had rocked the area two weeks ago that left two people dead and property destroyed by suspected Alshabaab militants
