Tae Kwon Do Championships: Kamau and Cheptum star in Eldoret tourney

Ian Kamau and Noel Cheptum yesterday emerged the winners of their respective weight categories in the inaugural Eldoret Tae Kwon Do Championships.

Kamau, who studies at Shah Lalji Nangpar Academy in Nakuru and Cheptum who is a pupil at Eldoret Premier School won in six and eight years' categories respectively.

Kamau beat Jees Musumba of SOS, Eldoret to the second position as Cheptum saw off Ella Wangari of Shal Lalji Academy to be runners up.

"Our mission is to spread this sport to all corners of the country and it is the reason we brought it here to the North Rift region," said the tournament's coordinator David Okiya who is a national Tae Kwon Do coach.

He said the event will be an annual competition in their calendar of events.

In the nine years' category, Charles Bulinda of Lions School Eldoret was the winner ahead of Brayden Mwenda of Shah Lalji Academy.

Nigel Waweru of Shah Lalji Academy did not disappoint in the 11 years' category beating Andrew Kipkemboi of Lions School, Eldoret and Gerald Chesimba of Shah Lalji Academy.

During the event, Tatiana Timanoi of Lions School, Eldoret emerged as the Most Improved Female player while Nigel Waweru of Shah Lalji Academy won the male's title.

The event attracted five schools.
