Doctors sue county for contempt

Sixty-two doctors have instituted contempt proceedings against the Laikipia County government and the Public Service Board for failing to comply with the order of the Public Service Commission (PSC).

The commission, in August, set aside a decision by the county to sack the doctors for protesting failure to implement a Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) moved to the Nyeri Employment and Labour Relations Court to contest the sacking of the doctors.

The court directed the matter to the commission for conciliation. PSC's decision was adopted as an order of the court.

KMPDU South Rift Secretary General Davji Bhimji Atella said the county has not paid the doctors salaries and benefits from June 2019.

The doctors through Wafula, Washika and Associates Advocates want the respondents to show cause why they should not be committed to civil jail.
