Man accused of killing wife, dumping her body in maize farm arrested

Police in Bahati on Friday evening arrested a 50-year-old man linked to the murder of his ex-wife in Solai, Rongai Sub County.

According to Bahati MCA John Njuguna, the suspect was cornered by residents who had got wind of the incident and handed him over to the police. 

 "The suspect whom we know as Kariuki stabbed his ex-wife at a maize plantation in Solai. He later informed his son of the incident. The son told residents who launched a manhunt and cornered him on Friday evening," said Njuguna.

 After the arrest, the residents embarked on a search mission for the missing woman only identified as Martha.

"At around 11pm, locals were combing through her maize farm and stumbled on her dead body," said Njuguna.

Attacked by father

Elsewhere, a mother, son and daughter are nursing serious panga injuries at Tenwek Hospital after they were attacked by their mentally ill father.

Kuresoi North Sub-County Police Commander Henry Nyarangi confirmed the incident saying the man woke up his wife and attempted to stab her.

"It was around 6am when Simon Ruto descended on his wife Jenifer with a knife while in bed but missed her," said Nyarangi.

Nyarangi said Jenifer's attempt to escape was futile after she tripped and the suspect caught up with her.

"The man stabbed her on the knee and nearly chopped of her three fingers. Their daughter intervened," said Nyarangi.

 The daughter, Mercy Cherotich was unlucky too as the man turned against her and sustained a deep cut on the head.

 On hearing the scuffle, Hillary Cheruiyot who had rushed to the scene in an attempt to get the knife from his father got stabbed on his thigh.

"The three are in stable condition and are receiving treatment at Tenwek Hospital.

The suspect is being held at Olenguruone Police Station," said Nyarangi.
