Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on Friday sent his condolences to the
family of Dr Adisa Lugaliki, saying it is painful to lose the life of someone
who was dedicated to her job.
While speaking in Kilifi County during the daily Covid-19
update, CS Kagwe said he had been in touch with relatives of the deceased, who succumbed to Covid-19, and
said he will continue assisting health workers in the fight against the virus.
“We have today for the first time lost a medical doctor to
the coronavirus disease. I’m deeply saddened by this because she contracted the
virus while working to save the lives of others who had contracted the virus,”
he said.
The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists
Union also sent a condolence message to the family of Dr Lugaliki, who served
as an Obstetrician & Gynaecologist at The Nairobi South Hospital.
“We have lost a hard-working obstetrician/gynecologist, a
mother, a friend and a colleague to the devastating effects of Covid-19.
“Our condolences to the family and friends of Dr. Doreen
Lugaliki,” wrote KMPDU.
The Ministry of Health announced 473 more cases of Covid-19,
bringing the national tally to 9448.
Out of the 473, 324 were male while 149 were female.
Kagwe expressed concern that more men are infected with the
virus, saying perhaps it can be attributed to certain behaviours like drinking
and chewing miraa.
Unfortunately, eight more lives were lost, bringing the
number of deaths to 181.
On a more positive note, 76 patients were discharged
bringing the total number of recoveries to 2733.
