The Covid-19 death toll has hit the 100 mark, as Kenya enters its third month since the first case was confirmed.
In the latest briefing, 152 more people have tested positive for the coronavirus. The nationally tally is now at 3,457.
Health CAS Rashid Aman (pictured) said the ministry had tested at least 3, 503 samples in the last 24 hours.
This brings the total tested samples in the country to 112,171.
Additionally, another 57 patients have been discharged, bringing recoveries to 1,221.
Four more people have however succumbed to the disease, which now brings the death toll in the country to 100.
All positive cases confirmed today are Kenyans. 116 of those are male and 36 female.
Distribution per county is as follows;
Nairobi- 70
Mombasa- 41
Busia- 16
Kiambu-9
Kajiado- 4
Machakos and Migori counties have three each
Kisumu- 2
Uasin Gishu, Narok, Taita Taveta and Nakuru counties with one case each.
In efforts to contain further spread of the coronavirus, the government has said that all restaurants and eateries still operating should close shop by 5pm.
Of the total confirmed cases, 3,106 are local transmissions accounting for 89 per cent of the cases.
The health CAS has reiterated the need for Kenyans to work together to fight the disease saying, “Community transmission is now moving out of the metropolitan areas and into the counties.”
According to Dr Aman, experts suggest that Kenya may be inching towards its peak, hence the need to adopt a higher level of individual responsibility.
“By restricting our movements and staying at home, the less we are exposing ourselves,” he said.
