Nairobi to use drones for virus fumigation

The Nairobi County Government plans to begin aerial fumigation of the city against the coronavirus.

The health department has announced plans to deploy drones to fumigate the capital, a method which is faster and covers more ground over a short period of time while employing minimal human resource.

County Executive for Health Services Hitan Majevdia yesterday told The Standard that City Hall had made a request to the Ministry of Health for procurement of drones to be used in the fumigation of the city.

“We are currently at the procurement stage of the drones and I have engaged my superiors at the Ministry of Health. It is a process but is the best and the fastest way to fumigate the city. This will drastically reduce the spread of the coronavirus," said Majevdia.

So far, 12 out of 17 sub-counties have been fumigated against the novel coronavirus. Huge gathering areas such as the Gikomba, Muthurwa, City and Wakulima markets, GPO, mosques and public benches have also been fumigated.
