Some MPs in South Rift snubbed two consultative meetings on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

Some MPs in South Rift snubbed two consultative meetings on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

The legislators, joined by some ward representatives, snubbed the meetings in Kericho and Bomet counties held on Monday and Tuesday respectively.

MPs representing six constituencies in Kericho County failed to honour invites to attend the meeting at Kericho Teachers Training College.

The meeting attended by Governor Paul Chepkwony and his deputy Susan Kikwai went on despite the low turnout.

The governor had earlier in the day revealed that all the leaders had been invited to give their views to be included in a memorandum to be presented in Nakuru on March 21.

But Belgut MP Nelson Koech said they were in Parliament and had communicated to the governor.

Kericho County Assembly Speaker Dominic Rono, when contacted, said all local leaders were invited.

Mr Rono said all was not lost for ward representatives because the County Assembly Forum will still be presenting its views.

In Bomet County, local politicians allied to Governor Hilary Barchok and former Governor Isaac Ruto held parallel rallies where they came up with recommendations that would be presented to the major BBI public consultative forum at Nakuru’s Afraha Stadium on March 21.

MCAs allied to Dr Barchok met at Bomet IAAF stadium while those allied to the former governor convened a rally at the Green Stadium.

Barchok criticised Ruto for holding a parallel meeting, noting that he was sowing discord in the county.
