Class seven pupil commits suicide after parents denied him access to watch TV

A class seven pupil in Kiboya village, Nyandarua County, allegedly committed suicide after his parents denied him access to watching television on Tuesday, February 25.

According to Nairobi News, the 12-year-old boy hanged himself inside his bedroom using a manila rope.

Nyandarua North Police Commander (SCPC), Timon Odingo says the boy’s mother, Esther Wairimu, while reporting the incident to the police, admitted that they argued with the son before he rushed to his room.

“Shortly after 10 pm, the boy’s mother told police that she found his son’s body hanging from the rooftop of his bedroom.”

“Police officers visited the scene and established that the deceased had actually committed suicide by hanging himself using a manila rope,” said Mr Odingo.

He added that the parent’s decision to deny him permission to watch television could have irritated the boy.

Mr Odingo also noted that despite the case being treated as suicide, further investigations would be conducted to establish what really transpired.

The deceased body was taken to Nyahururu County Referral hospital mortuary.
