Two people arrested in Nakuru for having GSU uniforms

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) department in Nakuru, are investigating how two youth acquired uniforms belonging to the National Police Service.

The suspects Stephen Chege, 22 and Samuel Njogu 23, were arrested on Tuesday night at Heshima Estate, Bahati Sub County.

Bahati Sub County Deputy Police Commander Francis Mwangi said Chege and Njogu were in possession of General Service Unit (GSU) uniforms.

Mr Mwangi said the two were arrested by police at a business premise, within the estate, and on interrogation, they appeared suspicious as if planning to commit an offence.

During the incident, irate members of the public claimed the two were among criminals who were terrorizing innocent locals and traders in the area.

Police raided their rental house at the estate, where they recovered two pair of GSU trousers and jackets. They were arrested and locked at Bahati police station.

“We are interrogating the suspects to know how they acquired the uniforms and what they have been using them for,” he said.

The two pair of trousers and jackets were handed over to DCI department in Nakuru for more probe.

Preliminary police investigations reveal that Chege and Njogu, are causal laborers, who have been using the uniforms to impersonate police officers.

Mwangi added that though the two are reluctant to shade more light on how they acquired the uniforms, it is believed they might have been stolen or hired from serving officers.

“Investigations reveal the suspects have been taking advantage of the uniforms to commit criminal activities and terrorise members of the public,” said Mr Mwangi.

The suspects will be arraigned to court today where they will be charged with being in possession of government property and impersonation.
