Suspect with fake police documents held in operation in Nairobi

A suspect was arrested with suspected fake firearm certificate in Nairobi’s Buruburu estate.

The certificate indicates the holder is a licensed gun holder.

The suspect had been impersonating a police officer harassing locals when police were alerted.

Nairobi Police boss Philip Ndolo said further investigations led the officers to his house at Tena Estate where a search was conducted and 21 rounds of ammunition, two spent cartridges, 10 firearm certificates bearing different names, five civilian firearm certificates of similar serial numbers bearing the suspect's names were discovered.

Also recovered were assorted firearm certificate application forms and nine Identity Card copies among other items that were confiscated.

In Athi River, a police officer attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Limuru was arrested alongside two other suspects for personating National Intelligence Service and Interpol officers on special operation within Great Wall gardens.

At the time of arrest, the trio were on board a motor vehicle that was found with one loaded mini ceska pistol, a pair of handcuffs, a mobile phone resembling a police pocket phone, two finger print slabs, a rubber stamp.

10 renewal of firearm certificates and one civilian firearm certificate were also recovered from the house. The suspects are in lawful custody as further investigations continue.

Cases in which police are involved in crime have been on the rise in an alarming rate. Authorities say they have taken measures to address the menace.

And two Nigerian nationals identified as Peter Daniel Joe and Michael A. Olesugun were arrested in Nairobi by DCI detectives working jointly with Immigration officers for making false documents and attempting to obtain Alien Students passes while using fake documents.

Such incidents of making fake documents have been on the rise prompting the probe. The two are expected in court.
