Relief food for schools goes missing in a store in West Pokot

At least 182 bags of rice supplied by the government to support school feeding programmes in Kipkomo Sub-county, West Pokot County, have gone missing.

According to Julius Ngoneshi, the area sub-county director of education, the bags of rice, each weighing 50 kilogrammes, were found missing after an audit at the food stores guarded by the police.

Ngoneshi said the audit was conducted following reports that some security officers were selling rice meant for the school feeding programme.

Some 13 bags of rice were later recovered.

Area Deputy County Commissioner Michael Wanyonge said seven suspects had been arrested and a number of Administration Police officers were being investigated.
