Police arrest woman behind killing in Laikipia County

Police in Laikipia County have arrested a 45-year-old woman in connection to last Friday’s killing of a 96- year-old man at Matwiku village.

The woman was arrested at her Marigat home in Baringo County and an AK 47 riffle recovered from her house, with four rounds of ammunition.

Two cows stolen during the incident that saw Mr James Kinyogoro killed were also recovered.

According to Nyahururu sub-county Police Commander Geoffrey Mayiek, police were pursuing the whereabouts of his 15-year-old son who is believed to have been involved in the raid.

“We have arrested the woman since we found the cows and the gun in her home. We are also pursuing the whereabouts of his son who we believed carried out the attack in the company of others,” he said.

He noted that the woman was to be arraigned in court to face charges.

During last Friday’s incident, the deceased was in his home when the attackers staged a raid.

The attackers shot several times in the air to scare away residents.

It was when he resisted to open the cowshed that he was shot on the head.

The attackers who number around ten stole his only two cows and sped off.

Local leaders led by Githiga ward MCA Peter Thomi have since condemned the incident and urged the government to beef up security in the area fearing the resurgence of banditry attacks.
