Gang steals gun from a traffic policeman

A traffic police officer is fighting for his life in a Murang’a hospital after he was injured by thugs who robbed him his firearm.

Morris Mwiti was robbed of a loaded pistol by three gang men who attacked him with a spade, they were carrying.

The officer was attacked by three men who were walking along the abandoned railway line.

The incident occurred at 4.30 pm along Murang’a-Sagana road, at a railway crossing point near Mathioya River.

 A police woman who was on duty with the victim fled after the gang wrestled him, and pulled out his pistol.

The gang then fled using a motor cycle which was parked in the bushes metres away.

Police drawn from several police stations in the county, were deployed to comb the bushes near the scene in search for the gun.

Murang’a East Deputy Police Commander Alexander Muasya said operation to recover the firearm is ongoing.

 Mr Muasya added that the victim who was in a critical state is responding to treatment.

“We appeal to the public to volunteer information which could lead to recovery of the fire arm,” said the police commander.
