A family in Usoga village, Bondo Sub-county, is appealing for help to find their daughter, who mysteriously disappeared three years ago.

Celestine Anyango, 23, and the last born in a family of three, last spoke to her parents in February 2017 and has not been seen or heard from again.

Anyango’s mother, Lynet Awuor, says she has spent sleepless nights waiting for her daughter’s safe return.

“I can’t sleep. I can’t work. I can’t do anything without thinking about my daughter. My life is almost coming to a standstill,” she told The Standard as tears welled up in her eyes.

Awuor says when she last spoke to her daughter on phone, she was supposed to travel home from Ugunja, where she was staying with an aunt.

“When I called her on that fateful evening, her phone was off. I called her aunt who confirmed to me that she had left to come home,” she narrated.

That was the last time she heard from her daughter.

Anyango’s father, Moses Okoth, said he has reported his daughter's disappearance to police and local administration.

So far, the police have not made any headway in resolving the mystery.

As the family became more desperate, they have resorted to prayers with hopes that their daughter will be found.

Okoth says the search for his daughter has affected him psychologically as he keeps receiving fake phone calls that turn out to be the worst jokes. “I have visited several hospitals, mortuaries and police stations in Siaya County but I have not found her,” he told The Standard, adding that he wants his daughter dead or alive.

He urges anyone with information on the disappearance of his daughter to report to the nearest police station.
