The Standard Group has partnered with the Nakuru County Government to sponsor this year’s Pamoja Peace Concert.

The event will be held at the Nakuru Showground to celebrate the beginning of a new year.

The free entry event, which will be broadcast live on Standard Group’s KTN Home TV station from 6pm on December 31 to 6am January 1, will bring together musicians from across the country.

Speaking on Saturday, Nakuru County Executive for Gender, Youth, Sports and Social Services Lucy Kariuki assured residents of their safety during the event.

“We have done all the necessary preparations to ensure safety for all those who will be in attendance. Security shall be provided by police officers and private security guards,” said Ms Kariuki.

The idea to hold the concert was mooted in 2010 by gospel musician Emmy Kosgei.

Standard Group has sponsored it for the last five years.

Musicians to perform

It is aimed at fostering cohesion among Kenyans through music.

“We are glad to host the event for a second time since it began in 2010," Kariuki said.

Musicians expected to perform are Ms Kosgei, Solomon Mkubwa, Rose Muhando, Phyllis Mbuthia, Shiru GP, Vicky Kitonga, Guardian Angel and Maggy Cheruiyot, among others.

Kosgei said this year’s concert will be different from others.

This is because more artistes will perform at the event.

“This will be a powerful opportunity to have young musicians learn how to rise up the ladder in the music industry," said Kosgei.

"We shall provide a platform for local artists to interact with each other and learn from those who have achieved international recognition,” said Kosgei.

The concert will be followed by an anti-female genital mutilation campaign in Soin Ward where the outlawed practice is rampant.
